Patagonia Quote Assignment

The paragraphs should represent a high level of analysis. The goal of the paragraph is to show a very comprehensive understanding of the meaning and intent of the concept as it is reflected through the quote. This would include clear and specific connections and examples as evidence of the points you are attempting to communicate.

This assignment is based on the reading of the book The Responsible Company: What Weve learned from Patagonias First 40 years. Its a 100 point assignment.

Here is an example of a very good paragraph..
Ethics
Benefit-corporation status also gives a company the legal right to pursue high social and environmental standards that can benefit the company in the long term but reduce short-term earnings (Chouinard & Stanley, 2012, p.41). Corporate greed lies behind a thin veneer in virtually every unethical business decision previously studied. The pressure to create profits results in cutting corners, as seen in RC2 Corporations products manufactured with lead paint (Hosmer, 2010, p.20). The pressure to generate revenue resulted in storm-battered people being harmed, as seen in the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina (Hosmer, 2010, p.14). The list goes on. The underlying reason for this corporate problem is the purpose of a corporation, which is to do exactly that, generate profits. When an organizations purpose is to do something, it should be no surprise when it fulfills it. The solution is the benefit-corporation structure, which allows corporations to make a profit while placing certain social and environmental standards as their priority. This structure should be encouraged. To an extent, the structure is inherently incentivized, as Chouinard and Stanley (2012) found that economic conditions are hard, people are willing to spend their limited income with companies they can trust.
