The written ‘Personal Report’ provides a final opportunity for students to critically reflect and provide evidence that they have met the aims of the module and have understood the intended knowledge and skills outcomes.Length: 1000 words (standard academic format see Written Style and Presentation below.) This is your chance to stand out from the group. You should reflect on the project itself as well as your role in it (my role as managing editor). You should also place the project within a theoretical framework, illustrating an understanding of the material resented in lectures as well as demonstrating further reading from key texts. Your theoretical framework may also be drawn from other media and cultural studies modules if appropriate. This should not be used as an opportunity to trash other members of your group. Our Group Project Work is to produce a full magazine. Containing articles, features and media content over 12 pages. The ‘Project Work’ enables the application of subject knowledge and skills in providing appropriate content and the practical implementation to be assessed. The successful completion of the end-product (the magazine) provides the means to assess problem-solving skills through choices made in identifying and acquiring the skills needed. The magazine we produce this year is aimed at new students thinking of applying to study MCH at Newcastle University. The end product will be designed like a consumer lifestyle magazine but with a strong corporate / advertorial core. You may choose to produce a one-off magazine or have it as the inaugural edition of a proposed series. Core readership: prospective studentsSecondary readership: may include parents / sponsors / advertisers / educators Content: the magazine should demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the content of both commercial and corporate magazines. It should contain both editorial and advertorial, including fillers and features. It should serve the dual function of entertaining and informing prospective students about what they can expect to encounter in MCH, the university and the city as a whole. Editorial identity: the magazine should demonstrate a distinct editorial identity. You will be marked on both its editorial coherence as well as the quality of the writing.
