(I need as much advice as I can get, is this too much? How can I improve this and really show law schools why I want to go to law school).
It was a beautiful sunny day when I left the hospital after my first colonoscopy, a stark contrast to the ill feelings brewing within me. I had been completely terrified of the unknown prior to my procedure but it turned out knowing was a lot worse. At the age of twenty I became diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Prior to my diagnosis I knew nothing about the chronic condition nor anyone who suffered from it thus, began my journey at delving deeper into finding more knowledge about it.
-Summer after summer I would accompany my uncle to Pakistan where he would give talks about the importance of healthy eating and using fresh ingredients to cook. I worked in the front desk at hotels and would have conversations about poverty and inability for people to afford to feed their kids due to lack of money and location.
The summer of 2020 my uncle passed away from a heart attack. I was so devastated that a man as healthy as him could leave at such an early age. He was the one who taught me that if you have a healthy life then you will live a long successful life (somthing like that). I became really down and depressed which affected all aspects of my life. But I decided that I would continue my uncles efforts at trying to raise awareness of the inequality gap of farmer markets and healthy foods. So that winter break I went to Canada and started hosting lectures and talks in my grandmas house. Over the years I have talked to so many different people (chefs, farmers, people at manufacturing companies, etc) about harmful chemicals added to food and people getting away with it. Regular citizens who dont have any knowledge of healthy eating are the ones that are most impacted with stomach problems, hospital bills, lack of energy, losing jobs due to medical conditons etc.
When I got back from Canada, I got Corona and was told with my condition it would be risky because of my immune system (This was early on when Corona was still considered a joke and no one was taking it seriously). I survived after a long fight and later whe I was better I resumed normal life would tutor girls in Pakistan while simultaneiously giving lecutres on food safety, food ethics (ex. Importance of washing hands before cooking, making sure no insects are in the food before cooking etc).
I want to go to law school to, to help fight against laws that make it okay to feed people bad foods and added chemicals. I want to take cases to help people. There was a time when I had to help an old man who cant speak english read term and agreements for things. I had to help a blind lady make the decision to sell her car (this might be a bit of a stretch since I literally just helped her make a sign for the car). Many people think becoming a lawyer is a boring or a job for the (some way to say bad people) but it only turns that way when you dont (something to do with passion and helping a community thrive).
Ulcerative Colitis has taught me discipline. I have to eat my medicine at a ceratin time, exercise, eat healthy, meditate etc. which is extremely helpful for law school because you have to be organized.
