Personal Statement for Law

I would like a personal statement that reflects who I am and what I have to offer to a law school. I wish to communicate with the writer so that it can be tailored to me! I am applying to these 3 schools who’s personal statement requirements are somewhat similar. I am mostly looking to check off the criteria of the first 2.Here are what the schools are looking for: 1. “All applicants must submit a personal statement. Your personal statement provides further information used in reviewing your application. Applicants are encouraged to discuss special academic interests and achievements, work experience (including volunteer experience), special skills and personal attributes as well as any other significant life experiences (e.g., family, travel). The personal statement should not exceed a maximum of 500 words.” 2. “Your personal statement is a very important part of your application. It is where the Admissions Committee can learn about you. We truly value a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and aspirations, so be authentic and be yourself. In your personal statement you may include your reasons for applying to law school, your academic performance/extra-curricular activities, key accomplishments from your paid/volunteer experience, your personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, barriers you have overcome and any other personal information you may wish to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee. This may include any special skills, talents, or experiences that you feel have given you a unique way of looking at the world. The Schulich School of Law is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in legal education and the legal profession. We strive to admit a first-year class of students that is enriched by a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. This includes individuals from historically disadvantaged groups, who will contribute to the fabric of the law school community. If you are from a historically disadvantaged group, you may describe how you are culturally, racially, or socially diverse and how these qualities have contributed to your character. For example, this may include, the languages you understand and speak, your Mikmaq, African Nova Scotian or other Indigenous, Black or other racial identity, your cultural background, how you live with a disability or your experiences with a mental illness, your sexual orientation or gender identity, financial challenges you faced, your unique family history or your religious or conscientious beliefs.” 3. “You must answer the following three questions within a maximum of 500 words in total: How have your previous experiences and academic choices influenced your decision to apply to law school? Why are you interested in attending UCalgary Law specifically? What would you like to do with your law degree?”
