This course examined six critical issues facing law enforcement and public safety. For this module, you will choose the seventh critical issue. After careful consideration, please select the most important or pressing issue facing your agency, jurisdiction, region or law enforcement and public safety broadly, that was not covered in this course. Other than avoiding a redundant topic that has already been covered in the course, there are no restrictions on your choice of topic. In a traditional paper or presentation, please address the following three elements:Define and describe the issue. Present an overview of the critical issue and empirical evidence on its scope and prevalence.Examine the various elements/subtopics of the issue. Including evidence and the voices/positions of topic-specific experts will add value to this section.Based on the evidence provided, what can/should law enforcement and public safety professionals be doing today to best prepare for this issue moving forward?Regardless of format, assignments will be evaluated on organization, evidence, argumentation and writing quality. All assignments should have a clear introduction that outlines the main point and provides a succinct preview for the audience. Moreover, body sections of the assignment should be subdivided into digestible subtopics with deliberate sequential organization and transitions between subtopics. Lastly, a conclusion should recap the main point of the assignment and reiterate how the evidence and subtopics presented reinforce the purpose of the assignment.Paper Option: Written assignments must be 1,200 words or less. Assignments over 1,200 words will be penalized. Please note, the word count only applies to the core substance of the assignment, thus the heading, references, etc. will not count towards the word limit.
