Rapid Dieting

Instructions:

For many people, rapid diets are the only kind worth trying. It’s common to hear someone say they want to lose “a quick five pounds” before a wedding, or “drop ten pounds” in preparation for a beach vacation. No one wants to be told that healthy weight loss takes time and effortso the companies marketing diet plans and supplements focus instead on get-skinny-quick gimmicks. Although these plans can sometimes lead to weight loss in the short term, they are very difficult to sustain. In this discussion, you will analyze your own experience with rapid dieting and explain why these diets are bound to fail.

Have you ever tried or considered trying rapid dieting? Describe your experience during the diet and after it ended.
Locate a diet ad on the Internet. Make sure the ad you select includes a time-bound claim (Lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks!) or long-term claim (You’ll keep the weight off for good!).
Review the previous video. Using evidence from Professor Levitsky’s explanation, describe why the rapid-dieting claim in the ad you chose is unlikely to be true.
