Recent advances in the use and applications of flow cytometry and confocal microscopy for the analysis of immunological receptors: Are there any limitations in the production of reliable data?

500word limit This is a provisional title, and of course, you are supposed to modify the title of the project and add your own ideas around it. I enclose some PDF articles as starting references and as background reading. The first task is the preparation for the production of your Project Plan. I will send you information soon on this task. I suggest you begin the project by reading a textbook on the basic principles of the cytometry and confocal techniques, for example Essential Immunology by Roitt, which is available online at the University library. Most importantly, remember to read original articles and do a search to find more information. Cytometry is used in biomedical sciences in hospital for clinical and research purposes, it is a complex and challenging topic. The key question of this project is to come up with a critique and highlight the limits of sensitivity of the cytometry and confocal techniques. Are there artifacts? Are there false positives? Are there false negatives? What validation steps must be taken to confirm the data obtained by both techniques? False positive or false negative test are issues much discussed in the face of COVID-19 antibody test and thus it is of general interest in clinical immunology. Project plan This should be an outline of your proposed work, including a clear hypothesis and/or your aim(s). If your project has several connected aims, indicate the intended allocation of your time to each part, so that all aims are dealt with. Indicate the techniques and the approximate time to be taken for each experiment, the controls to be used, and the number of replicate samples/experiments to be performed with the appropriate statistical analyses. It is intended to provide you with a clear idea of your aims, and plan of action, though this may be modified during the course of the project. It will be returned with comments
