Group x, I wonder why you put checking on government policies as an example to avoid? Maybe you feel that they could have done more to prepare themselves for this move? At the end of the day, you can check as much as possible, but some things are just not going to happen they way you expect, or even they way you were told. That came happen with any country but it is very common in Africa.
I do like point 5 about following your dreams. The hard part with this is that it can often cause you do many of the things that we list as errors, such as points 3-5, as all of those decisions were the result of following their dreams. We cannot have it all, so you may need to make difficult choices along the way.
