According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, most vaccine-preventable diseases are spread from person to person (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2018). Vaccines are developed to protect the health of populations and have been proven to greatly reduce infectious diseases while protecting those who are not vaccinated (CDC, 2018). Early prevention is key for vaccination goals to be met (CDC, 2018). With the current decline of vaccination rates among all ages in the United States, it is more important, now than ever, to educate anti-vaxxers on the importance of protecting children from most vaccine-preventable diseases (National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), 2020). Vaccine-preventable diseases have not disappeared and if people stop getting vaccinated, these diseases will resurface and continue to spread at a higher rate (CDC), 2018). Those who choose not to get the vaccine are still at risk of exposer and potentially exposing others (CDC, 2018).
As one of the very specific protocols that a research review follows, a well-constructed search strategy is the core of a systematic review (University of Michigan Library, 2021). The search strategy that would work best for the problem statement selected would be to use keywords to broaden the results (University of Michigan Library, 2021). Online databases such as the Grand Canyon University Library, Google Scholar, JURN, and PubMed as just a few to get started on researching this topic. Success has been found in working with these databases and could lead to a great starting point. Search terms, descriptors, or keywords that will guide the literature search include vaccines, anti-vaxxers, and vaccine deniers. Lastly, the use of Boolean operators, such as AND, can assist in narrowing the search. An example of this search would be Vaccine-Preventable Diseases AND Anti-Vaccinators.
