Artist & Technique Essay: Art History
The Artist & Technique Essay is a 2-page research paper on the specific artist or artistic technique of your choice introduced in the unit. Each Unit will require an essay and each essay should be on a different topic/artist. This is your opportunity to learn more about a specific artist (biography) or a technique (oil painting, fresco, bronze casting, stained glass, masonry, manuscript illumination, etc.). Your essay should be less focused on a specific example/object and more focused on the process of creating that object.
If you choose to focus on a specific artist covered in the Unit, page #1 should be biographical (what do scholars know about the artist, how were they trained, what are they famous for, what inspired them. The information should be relevant to their profession (pick and choose what to include do we really need to know they were the 4th of 7 kids). Page #2 should be about why they are famous/significant.
