Second Wave of Feminisms: 1960s White VS Women of Color Feminisms in the United States

Step One: Research, read, and summarize the sources in the annotated bibliography. Using your notes write a thesis statement that informs the reader of what you are going to do in your paper and lists the arguments that will use to prove your point. The only way to refine and narrow down the topic you have selected is by doing the search and reading the articles you have selected. Make a list of the new concepts and ideas you find in these articles which you will incorporate into your thesis statement. Remember that in the thesis statement you cannot talk about things in a descriptive way, you must take a position, (e.g. In this paper I am going to do such and such, based on x, y, and z arguments. (These can be your original ideas or concepts and ideas you learn from the articles).

The length of the thesis statement should be between one to three sentences. I encourage you to write an introductory paragraph that introduces your topic and place the thesis statement at the end of the paragraph. For a graphic view of the structure of the thesis assignment, please refer to the Sample Paper on the Blackboard menu.

Second Step: The thesis statement should be followed by the annotated bibliography which should consist of the three outside readings from the class you selected. You may include articles I assigned but must also find three new readings. If you decide to include some of the articles I assigned for this class, those articles must be summarized as well. An annotated bibliography is a bibliography that summarizes each article. Therefore, summarize each of the articles you selected. When you cite the article for the assignment, make sure to provide the full citation in MLA format. The URL of the article or chapter should follow the reference so that I can easily find it.

Step Three: After each summary describe why you chose this article and identify and explain how the topics or ideas in the article helped you further develop your thesis statement (the objective of your paper). I expect to see most of the concepts you identify incorporated in your thesis statement either in the form of an argument or something you are going to explore.

The assignment should be formatted in the following way (You will lose points if you do not format the assignment in this way):

1. Introduction-Make sure to connect the introduction to the topic you are writing about in your thesis statement.

2. Thesis Statement-Say what you are doing as well as how you are going to do it. What is the focus of your topic and how are you going to develop it. The articles you read should inform the thesis statement. There should be a connection and that connection should be clear.
