So how does it impact our approach to women, marginalized communities, different social groups, etc?

This paper is for a class called “introduction to visual Culture” and this writing assignments is supposed to be on a topic that I have previously written about in a class diary and now the writer here, has to expand upon that.

I need the writer here to expand on this idea. The idea is the “male Gaze” that we see in different media. The writer needs to watch the You Tube link and also read the two reading materials I provided to write this essay.

There are three sources that I have provided and want the writer to use, one of them which is what the essay is going to be written about is a Commercial Video:
#1 source- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOTumW7kXuM
Source #2 and Source #3 are attached pdf reading files in this matter to be used by the writer.

The writer is encouraged to used their CRITICAL THINKING and visual analysis.

This is the prompt for the essay that the writer need to Expand upon Using and bringing in the three sources:

“Think of the male gaze you see in the movies or popular media. How would you recognize it (you can reflect on overt sexualization/objectification, passive vs active gaze, etc)? Reflect on any other gazes you might encounter in visual media – whose gazes are they, in what contexts can you see them? Can you think about any specific examples of the narratives (movies, video games, comic books, etc) in which the male gaze is absent from the depiction of women, or which feature different kinds of gazes? Can some examples simultaneously feature male gaze & try to subvert it?
In popular media, how do you think is the gaze related to the consumer culture and target audience?
Gaze can be subconscious – so how does it impact our approach to women, marginalized communities, different social groups, etc?

here is my written short answer to this prompt that the Writer need to expand upon : “I feel like we see this (male gaze) everyday more than ever. i notice this in commercials alot that women are used to bring attention to a product.”

Writing assignment guidelines:
This writing assignment is intended to allow you to pursue a topic that interested you in more depth, practice your visual analysis skills, and to engage with class material in a more analytical way.

A strong assignment will:
1)Include a strong central argument, expressed in a clear thesis statement.
2)Incorporate extended discussion of the two PDF documents provided. You should not simply summarize the reading, but rather, attempt to critically assess the authors main argument and key ideas and link them to your own discussion.
3)Introduce and use visual analysis to discuss an image or video of your choice (in this case it is the You tube video attached, which is “Paris Hilton’s Carl’s Junior ad video” ) that you think helps to illustrate your ideas or extend your argument.
4)Draw links between the subject of the diary entry and other key ideas/material from the rest of the class.

Practical information:
Length: 1200 words each (approx. 4-5 double-spaced pages).
Formatting: Your assignment should be typed, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman, with 1- inch margins.
