Summarize, in one or two paragraphs, the central arguments of the text. What are the main claims (2-3)? How does the author make his or her point (what evidence do they use)? Does the author’s voice play a major role in their argument?

Respond to one reading on the date for which that reading is due. Your response should come in the form of a two-page, double-spaced document with 1″ margins in Times New Roman or similar font.

Respond to the reading as follows:

1. Summarize, in one or two paragraphs, the central arguments of the text. What are the main claims (2-3)? How does the author make his or her point (what evidence do they use)? Does the author’s voice play a major role in their argument?

2. If possible, use one or two paragraphs to relate the text to other readings in the course. Does the text advance an argument from earlier in the semester? Does it argue against another reading? Is there perhaps even a reading from one of your other classes that bears on the text?

3. Relate, in your remaining space, the arguments in the reading to a piece of relevant media. This could be anything: film, tv, music, news, etc. How does theory manifest itself in practice? Do the arguments of the reading hold true or are they refuted by a piece of media under consideration? Does this outside media expand in any way on the possibilities of the reading, putting it in a new light and allowing you to better understand the reading’s central tenets?
