Answer all questions, does not have to be in essay format! simply numbered questions

1. The intended effect — How do you think the play is intended to affect the audience? What makes you think that? If you were directing a production, how would you support that effort? How would you cast the specific roles? How would you direct the actors, or what kind of designs (scenic, lighting, costumes, or sound) would you want? How would those directorial choices help the play have the effect you think the play intends?

2. The protagonist — Who is the protagonist, the character who most works to do something that will change their situation? Support your answer by quoting at least three passages in the script.

3. Objective/Obstacle — Name another characters (not the protagonist’s) objective and obstacle (see textbook chapter 7). Justify your answer. Support your answer by quoting from the script.

4. Structure — How does the cinematic structure (see textbook chapter 6) serve the play? Be sure you show evidence of knowing how the textbook defines “cinematic structure.” How is Tom’s speech at the beginning of the play related to the cinematic structure, and how would the play be different without Toms speech at the beginning?

5. Theme — What is the theme, thesis, meaning, or lesson in the play that can be applied to real life?
