Dissertation – complete dissertation based on literature sources/lit review. Covering the impact BRD/pneumonia has on fertility/Age at first calving of heifers which were treated as calves. Look into its long term impact on fertility and potentially Average daily live weight gain (but this can be briefly mentioned as there is limited research so mention as an area for further research). Finish off with economic analysis and own estimation of losses that prevalence of pneumonia has on a herd. Eg increased costs with greater age at first calving, any difference in lifetime/time in herd. Treatment and labour costs associated short term also. I have attached some sources/references which will be useful. How about its effect on age at first service, conception rate and age and live weight at first calving? We could do not treated. 0; treated twice 2 and treated 4 or more times? That would make a good table of data. We could look at live weight at 6 months and 12 months of age, as service should be at 13 to 15 mo. And at calving, which should be at 24 months. My thought would be that it is as worth while to look at the range/ variation in growth rates and age, as it is at the means. There is a good bit of stuff on fertility (look at the AHDB web site) and some recent papers on pneumonia and a very few that look at growth rates, so a good thing to be doing. You could round up by estimating costs of treatment and feed costs from extra days. Its slight harder to look at longevity, but if they calve later they do not last longer in the herd and so you have less milk too.
