OK so for this paper is going to choose between the three theories below and youre going to get a article? The purpose is to choose ONE of those theories that best relate to the article then after that youre going to use Google scholar to look up one of the theories you chose in find journal articles thats related to the theory
1. Social exchange theory
2. Expectancy violation theory
3. Organizational culture theory
Remember you can only choose ONE of these theories best relate to the article Im going to send
If you were to select social exchange theory, you would first write an introduction to the paper. Then, in the body of the paper, you would explain the main concepts and logic of social exchange theory as if the reader were learning about the theory for the first time. Next, you would explain how certain details from your chosen news article can be explained with your theory, as well as how certain details from your chosen news article cannot be explained with your theory.
3). After analyzing the news article with your chosen theory, you have to find two peer-reviewed journal articles that use the same theory you have been using throughout your paper. This means that if you choose social exchange theory to analyze the news article, the two journal articles must also use social exchange theory.
I think typing “social exchange theory” into Google Scholar or into the UTK library’s data bases would be a great place to start in terms of finding the two peer-reviewed journal articles. On our Canvas webpage, I posted a step-by-step tutorial of how to find peer-reviewed journal articles, so that tutorial should help you find some articles.
Keep in mind that although the two peer-reviewed journal articles need to use the same theory you used to analyze the news article, the two journal articles do not have to be about the same topic. For example, if you analyze the Johnson and Johnson news article with social exchange theory, it does not necessarily mean that the two peer-reviewed journal articles need to also examine organizations or businesses. If you find two journal articles that focus on other contexts with social exchange theory (e.g., the articles might analyze romantic relationships or friendships with social exchange theory), those journal articles would still work for this paper. The only thing that needs to be consistent across all of the sections in your paper is your chosen theory.
4). When you type “social exchange theory” into the search box, you might get quite a lot of results. Some of the search results will not look very promising, but other search results will seem more interesting. Part of the task in writing this paper is getting practice sorting through all of the search results and using the results that seem most promising to you.
