What biblical principle(s) apply in the above scenario?

Topic: Who Benefits from Help

Question 1: An article in Psychology Today (2003) reports on a study that followed 400 older married couples for a period of five years. The researchers found that those who provided emotional or practical support (such as driving or cooking) to others were 40 to 60 percent less likely to die within the next five years than did those who did not provide such help. The authors concluded that giving help produces positive emotions and those emotions tend to buttress cardiovascular health. So, clearly, giving or helping others improves the mental and physical health of givers, but why didnt all that help and giving do much for those on the receiving end? Why didnt those who received social support live as long as did those who gave it?

Question 2: What biblical principle(s) apply in the above scenario?
