Suggestions for those to interview: family, community members, professors, friends, anyone you think may have interesting ideas. You must interview three people.
Tell your interviewee that this is for a class and explain the purpose of your paper (exploring peoples ideas and understandings of mental illness and mental health). You do not need to include their names in the paper, and so they can remain anonymous to myself or whichever TA grades your paper.
Questions:
What do you believe causes, or are some causes of, mental illness?
What do you know about the medications that some people take to help with or reduce symptoms of a mental illness?
What do you believe keeps people feeling mentally well?
Is there anything about a certain kind of mental illness or condition that you wish you knew more about?
After the interview- Take notes so you will be able to recall exactly what was said. Also take notes on your reaction to the interview. Reflect on content of the interviews and if you noticed any stigma or misinformation. **Your reactions and thoughts regarding these interviews will become one half of your final paper.
