The topic that I chose to write about in this essay, is how hip-hop/ rap music sexualizes women.
What interests me the most within this topic would be: why is it okay for men to sexualize women but it is not Okay when women decide to do the same to men? From the prompt the question that asks: Does music that degrades people in any one of these ways lead to people being mistreated in real life? I would direct this question specifically to women.
I am most interest in this topic, because in more recent events women rappers have started to take the power back by being more explicit and speaking about their sexuality. In result, this has created waves within the rap/hip-hop community, where men rappers have shunned these women rappers saying “how they aren’t being good examples” for their younger audience of girls. I feel as though this is hypocritical, how can a man say degrading words when describing a women but when a women is proud of her sexuality it’s deemed inappropriate.
The stand that I would take on this subject would be against the “ethics” of accepting the standard to sexualize women in rap/hip-hop music.
