The following discussion post relates directly to Beckers (1963) conception of the moral entrepreneur. Throughout history, moral entrepreneurs have attempted to raise public awareness of issues pertaining to morality that they believed to be of great social consequence. From working to abolish slavery to leading the fight for womens voting rights, moral entrepreneurs have worked both tirelessly and in various capacities throughout the past several hundred years, attempting to alter the moral compass of their respective societies and beyond.
Thus, for this post, I want you to choose a person or organization who you would consider to espouse the tenants of moral entrepreneurship – it can be anyone from a member of your community to an internationally renowned organization. In addition to providing a brief history of the person or organization, I would like you to answer the following questions:
1.) What is/are the issue(s) they are trying to raise awareness for? Provide a brief description.
2.) Is the issue currently informally or formally socially controlled?
3.) Who is/are the main agent(s) of social control?
4.) What is the outcome they are striving to achieve?
5.) If you were in their place, what steps would you take to raise public awareness and achieve the desired goal? Outline the various steps.
Technical Requirements: Online postings are expected to be 2-3 pages double spaced, using 12 pt. Times New Roman font. APA format should be adhered to for formatting and referencing purposes.
