Individual research using current professional journals should be utilized. The CEC and ASCD journals are excellent resources as well as ILA and other content journals.
Begin searching for a Best Practice Article that discusses language instruction and/or language assessment practices in the classroom. Remember that a Best Practice Article may not address the issue of research (as a Research Article would), but it may refer to research. It is not necessarily research based. Best Practice Articles discuss what is going on in classrooms that seems to work. Find a strategy/technique/method that enhances or allows for improved learning in the classroom. What new or innovative strategy will enhance academic success?
Look for research that can readily be applied directly to the classroom; some of the best references are: Teaching Exceptional Children journal from CEC: Council for Exceptional Children and Educational Leadership from ASCD: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. However, any professional journal may offer information that applies to a strategy/practice/program to enhance learning in the classroom.
Complete the Profiling a Best Practice Article worksheet (located in the Course Materials Folder). Use that worksheet to write a one-page summary of your article. Make sure the citation is included on the one-page summary. Submit both the One-page Summary and the Profiling a Best Practice Article worksheet together into one WORD document.
