This is a broad topic. The professor is very old fashioned and I would prefer to cater to what he wants. Please try to include many pictures as he likes that. Here are some ideas for western movies in modern life:

There are more sources you can find like this online (do not cite sources like the two above). For all the older movies (and newer), please cite. Some modern movies to think of – Hostiles (2017), Rango (2011), Slow West (2015), and Django Unchained (2012). Feel free to include these and more. Pictures from all movies please. Try to tie in how the modern movies reference the topics covered in the older movies list mentioned above. And again, lots of pictures. Try to weave the pictures in to the paper, and explain their significance. After the pictures, the paper should be around 8-9 pages. He loves pictures.
Some books that may help – The Frontier Thesis by Billington and Regeneration through Violence, Slotkin. Both of these books are fantastic and would be great if you could cite them. He loves Slotkin’s fighter myth.
