What type of research design will you use to collect and analyze your data?

Statement of Problem and Literature Review1.State the general problem area. What topic are you investigating and why? Note previous studies in the area (literature review- use only scholarly journals. You must have at least 5 empirical articles from academic journals). A copy of the abstract of each article must be turned in with your literature review. If you are not sure if all of your sources meet these criteria, email me your list and I will let you know.Concepts/Conceptualization2. Based on the research articles you reviewed, what are the two (or more) concepts that you are trying to link?3. Conceptualize your two main concepts. Be sure that at least one concept is abstract. Relating gender to the last year of school completed will not get you many points.Operationalization4. Working with your conceptualization, operationalize your concepts. Be very clear on how you will measure your concept.Hypothesis (es)5. State the specific hypothesis (es) that you wish to examine.Variables of Interest6. Identify the independent variable and the dependent variable in the hypothesis. How did you determine which variable was independent and which was dependent?7. What variables, if any, will you control for and why?Measurement, Validity and Reliability8. At what level is each variable measured?9. Discuss the reliability and validity of your measurements. What techniques will you use to assess the reliability and validity of your measurements?Research Design10. What type of research design will you use to collect and analyze your data? Why did you select that design? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the selected design?Sampling/Sample Design11. Do you plan to sample? If yes, what kind of sampling design will you use and why? Explain your sampling procedure. If you do not plan to sample, why not?Data Collection Plan12. What type of data collection technique will you use and why? Note the advantages and disadvantages of the selected technique. If the data collection technique you selected is quantitative, discuss how a qualitative technique could also be used (and vice versa). So you should have one quantitative and one qualitative technique described to address your research question. Note that these two approaches may require different sampling techniques.Ethics15. What, if any, ethical considerations enter into your project? How do you plan to handle these issues?Conclusion/ Look toward the future16. What does your research offer to the field of criminology in light of the previous research that you have read? (This is where you tie in the articles to your research. What do you offer that they dont?). What have you learned about social research in doing this project? You will be submitting 3 documents (see Syllabus tab on Canvas for due dates):Literature Review 3-5 pages (see item #1 above)Draft Proposal 10-12 pages (items 1-16 above)Final Research Proposal 10-12 pages (items 1-16 above)The final research proposal must be 10-12 pages typed using Word. You must use APA citation style and organize the paper in the same order as the list above. Use the same headings that appear in bold print above so you wont forget any steps.Margins are to be standard margins- you may NOT adjust your margins to make your paper longer. Use Times New Roman font, and you must use nothing larger than 12pt font. You are to turn in these documents on Canvas in order to run it through the plagiarism software. Each document you submit must include a reference page (youll have at least the 5 articles from the literature review on there).
