The content of your paper should address the following:
1-Introduction/Statement of the Problem must include the following:
Clear statement of the problem and why it is important to address
A background to the issue and its context
To whom is the issue a concern and the context of the problem
Extent of the problem and how it has been addressed if so
Relevance/significance of topic
Brief explanation of theories to support the research
Your approach to the problem
Definition of key terms used in the dissertation
For Quantitative research – a hypothesis and for Qualitative research – a problem statement.
2-Literature Review:
How have others conceptualized the problem.
Previous research, significant findings, relevant or current studies
Factors/variables that explain the problem
Theories used to explain the problem and how these relate to the theories you will rely on for framing the research
What is lacking and has not been significantly researched
3-Research Questions:
A statement of purpose why you are doing the research and your objectives
The core research question and any supportive sub-questions
Your hypotheses (for quantitative studies)
4-Methodology:
An explanation of research method to be utilized, using supporting literature
Data collection techniques (e.g., field research, participant observation, survey, experiment)
Participants/subjects recruitment, sample size, type of sampling used
The intended analysis method
A tentative timeline
5-Implications/Conclusions:
Implications and significance of study
How the study will advance knowledge within your field of study
Practice-related contributions if any are anticipated
