Write a reflective statement based on short interview on the effectiveness of prisons in the U.K.I am writing a reflective statement based on an interview that I conducted about whether the public believe that prisons in the UK are effective.I only had one interviewee as we were practicing at uni. Unfortunately we were not allowed to record them so I will give the most detailed answers that I can. I am hopeless at making this kinda stuff sound academic so I hope you will be able to help me out with this assignment. It was only five minutes long and the questions that I asked are as follows: 1. To start off I would like to ask you if you personally think if the prison system in the Uk is effective ? This was quite a self explanatory question so the interviewee answered it pretty well. When they mentioned rehabilitation in prisons I used that opportunity to probe their answer by asking so do you believe that rehabilitation would be a more effective approach than just keeping people in prison ? ,this probe worked really well as I was able to get more insight and a detailed answer to my question. My second question was: 2. Would your view on prisons be shared with other members of the public ? When I asked this question there seemed to be some misunderstanding so I had to rephrase it slightly in order for the interviewee to fully understand the meaning. If I were to conduct this interview again I would still include this question as it worked well in providing a good answer that contributed to the topic I was interviewing, however, I would rephrase the question slightly due to the initial misunderstand that happened. My last questions were: 3. Do you think people from different age groups would have different views on the effectiveness of prison in the U.K ?, e.g elderly people and uni students.4. Do you think people from different social classes would have different views on the effectiveness of prison in the U.K ? I merged these two questions together when asking as I was running out of time, so if I were to conduct the interview again I would ask them separately. In addition, the answer that the interviewee gave to question 2 also answered question 3 to an extent so maybe I would remove this question if I were to repeat the interview. Before conducting the interview I considered the ethical implications that could arise. That is why after introducing myself I got informed consent by saying I would also like to make you aware that your thoughts and opinions will be kept confidential and not shared expect from the course tutor or any academic involved in this assignment. I think this also allowed me to build rapport with the interviewee as them knowing their answers were confidential meant that they were more likely to give honest and more open answers. However, I wouldve made a more detailed introduction of myself such as saying where I am from and what I study as the interviewee couldve possibly related to me more and so felt more at ease to give open answers. The statement can be written in first person and is 300 words. Feel free to ask me any questions or clarification on anything.
