CURRENT EVENT ASSIGNMENTS:
For each week of the course, each student is expected review a variety of media sources and identify a current event related to a specific area in our discussion of law enforcement and policing. For the purposes of the assignment, current means something that has occurred within the past year. Because of the broad range of possible topics that can be covered, the following schedule of topics will be adhered to:

In a MS Word compatible format, the student will generate a single page document presenting the following information about the current event (These headers are to be used):
Assignment
Student name / class
Date submitted
The theme of the current event (from above)
The headline of the story
The location of the event / story
An APA formatted reference entry for the story
A summary of the article drawing from details in the media report. The summary should consist of two to three short paragraphs and include and analysis by the student and a categorization of the nature of the story (see above for example categories). Attempt to answer the standard questions of who, what, when, where, and why.

Remember, this assignment is about correlating the topic(s) of the class to current events and real world occurrences. Your articles should be real-world examples of the topics noted above and how they relate to law enforcement or policing. Your current can be in the form of a video (news broadcast, social media, etc.). However, the link to the story must be sent to the instructor PRIOR to the beginning of the class so that the story can be loaded and ready to go during the current event presentation period.

Summary needs to be 350 words
Analysis needs to be 150 words.
