In this essay, you will identify an event that is taking place today that you believe to be a violation of one or more of the human rights identified in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. You will tell your reader about this situation, informed by newspaper articles and academic database research, and you will explain to your reader which articles of the UN Declaration of Human Rights you think this violates and why. Finally, you will propose a possible solution or response to this violation.
Part 1 Annotated Bibliography (6 8 sources)
After youve selected a current event to be analyzed, you will begin with research. An annotated bibliography is a list of sources like a Works Cited page that does a bit more than list each source. Each annotation, a short paragraph after the source information, should contain a brief summary of the source and how the source will contribute to your essay. Some of your sources might have to do with describing the current event youve selected. Some might directly discuss the human rights that are violated. Some might be about possible solutions or responses to the problem. Remember you will probably have lots of different kinds of sources.

Part 2 Human Rights Persuasive Essay
Using sources from your annotated bibliography, write an essay that argues how a current event should be considered a human rights violation and then consider responses/solutions to it. Your essay should incorporate all of the research youve completed up to this point that is listed on your annotated bibliography and articulate the argument.
Make sure that the final draft of your essay includes
An introduction that provides general information about the human rights violation you will discuss and that includes your thesis statement (that declares the situation you will write about and explains why/how it violates a specific human right).
Specific information about the human rights violation that you find through your research (at least two quotes from two sources).
Write an explanation of how this event/situation is a violation of a human right (at least one quote from the UN Declaration of Human Rights).
A discussion of how people should respond to/try to solve this violation.
