As we have studied in Unit 4, cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells divide in an uncontrolled or unregulated fashion. These abnormal cells can spread through the body forming tumors and interfering with normal activity. This is a project that allows you to research specific cancer risk factors, and is worth 50 points. After your research, you are expected to write a paper that addresses the specific questions listed below.
Type “Chemicals that form in meat cooked at high temperatures” into the search box at the upper right on the National Cancer Institute (NCI) website. This will pull up multiple links to articles on this topic. Using material from those articles, write a paper that fully addresses the numbered questions below. It is expected that you will need to read at least 3 articles from the NCI website to gather adequate information. You should provide the specific URL for each article that you read at the end of your paper. There is no specific word limit on this research project. The key is to fully address each of the questions. However, based on my past experience, it take between 800-1000 words to include all information.
Things that must be addressed in the paper
1 – What is the suspected cancer agent?
2 – Where is it found? Is it in a product or is it naturally occurring? If in a product, what is its use?
3 – What is the connection between this agent and cancer? Include: What kind of cancer does it cause? What kinds of studies link this agent to cancer?
4- Can you limit exposure to this risk factor? How?
5 – How is this type of cancer diagnosed?
6 – Is this type of cancer treatable? How?
7 – Describe other info that you read that you found interesting; you may also include personal commentary.
