Reginald’s post: In research, data collection involves obtaining information or results related to the implemented interventions from the participants. I consider the data collection process one of the most important research steps because it determines how the study will be concluded. It also has the bulk of information that is used in the discussion step to create evidence (Aycock, Clark, Thomas, Lee, & Moloney, 2017). Similarly, the provision of clinical care relies on data that is obtained from physical and history assessment. If the data obtaining process is not done well, the care plan may not lead to the expected outcomes. Data collection in research and patient care processes are similar in some aspects.

As a healthcare provider, I have participated in collecting and analyzing patients data on several occasions. In some instances, I worked in teams with specific roles to play. There is a day I dealt with a patient who needed immediate medical attention after presenting with the condition that involved his respiratory system. However, the patient had a memory issue and could not provide the information needed during history taking. He was accompanied by a family member who knew a little about the patients past and recent health status. The situation became a little difficult to handle, but we formed an interprofessional team that analyzed the available medical information and documents to develop a care plan that improved the patients condition. The collaborative approach made the situation that seemed difficult to become easier and effective (Elwyn, Cochran, & Pignone, 2017).

In my evidence-based project, I need data on how simulation teaching strategy could help to reduce medication errors by novice nurses. This means that my data will be collected from students, nurses, and nurse educators. I will need to collaborate with all the relevant people to have reliable data and analyze it appropriately (Elwyn et al., 2017).
