Your task is to focus on these three elements and identify all the health, safety, and environmental issues associated with their use and describe a green alternative for each element.
For example, when you choose “Solvents”, you must begin with an overview of the most common classes of solvents for chemical reactions, processes, and products, examining the reasons for the global concerns associated with them. Then, you must describe the greener alternatives to the use of these solvents such as substitution by safer solvents, modification of processes to allow use of new or unusual solvents, and elimination of the need for solvent altogether.
You must introduce several examples in your essay for a successful completion of your assignment. There will be a very useful lecture that will be posted on canvas and students can use this video to prepare their essays. This portion of the assignment constitutes 10% of the final grade.
