Technology Case Study

Each case poses several questions that require your personalized analysis along with bibliographic citations from course materials and outside readings. For each selected case:

1. Carefully analyze the case based on the concepts and principles from background readings, required texts, in-class presentations, literature reviews, and other information sources (books, academic and trade journal articles, business publications, etc.) related to class content.
2. For each case, prepare a critical analysis for each question (worth up to 7 points per case). You must address all questions included with the case and optional issues of your choice. Your answers should synthesize and integrate course content and other resources to develop a personalized and defensible analysis. A thorough response for most questions should total about 500 words.
3. For each case, include at least three (3) appropriate APA-formatted citations/references (worth up to 3 points per case) to support your analysis. Citations can be drawn from required class texts, other course materials, student projects, journal articles presented in class, or additional readings consulted exclusively for the exam. Use APA standards for in-text citations, and include an APA reference list at the end of each case. All items included in the reference list must be cited in-text.

Use this document as a template to compose your answers and follow these guidelines:

1. Save this file with your last name as part of the filename.
2. Include your name, date, and selected cases in the information box at the top of page one.
3. Do not delete the cases that you choose not to answer.
4. Provide your analysis below each question within the case. Do not remove any text from the template.
5. Do not copy and paste graphics or tables from other documents into the exam template. Only original graphics and tables prepared by you exclusively for this exam can be included.
6. Please do not use advanced formatting (font changes, bolding, indentations, etc.) for your responses.
7. Save your work frequently. Be careful about MS Word’s habit of unexpectedly reformatting documents. If you see that Word has made a formatting change, press the “undo” icon and this will usually remove the unexpected change.
8. Be sure to save your document frequently during editing.

Review the Harvard Business School outline, “Managing the Internet of Things: How Smart, Connected Products are Changing the Competitive Landscape,” which accompanies a webinar presented by Michael Porter and James Heppelmann (posted to Blackboard as a PDF).

Your role in this case is as a strategy consultant working with your organization to explore the use of smart connected products for either 1) developing new proprietary products or services, or 2) deploying third-party systems to improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, or sustainability.

Questions

1. Refer to Figure 2 in the Harvard document as a framework. Discuss what you believe to be the potential for developing smart connected products in your current organization to sell to customers. These products could either extend an existing product line or be a new product line. Which level of smart connected product (smart connected product, product system, or system of systems) would be most likely pursued by your company, and why?
Your response:

2. Consider the operational environment of your company. Identify and discuss one example of an existing process and supporting system that could be improved through use of smart connected products. Discuss the general features of a proposed smart connected product to improve operations in this area. The product can either be an existing product or one not yet on the market.
Your response:

3. Refer to Figure 3 in the Harvard document. For your proposed use of smart connected products discussed in either Question 1 or Question 2, answer at least three of the strategic choice questions identified in Figure 3 (omitting questions 1 and 10). Which of these three questions do you see as most significant for your company given its current business strategy and capabilities, and why?

think about the material. Ponder what the author’s intent is in writing the assigned pieces. Did he or she succeed? Is the author persuasive? What would it mean if the author is right or wrong? What other arguments are compatible or incompatible with the author’s stance? Long baths, showers, walks, or aimless metro rides are perfect situations for contemplationAs to citation, though the Chicago Manual of Style is the preferred guidebook for philosophical writing, any scholarly format is acceptable, provided it is consistent throughout the assignment. All quotes and ideas taken from sources other than the student’s mind are to be scrupulously cited to avoid plagiarism and cheating. It is cheating to consult other sources to supplement your understanding of the reading. Part of the work of philosophy is interpreting the text, so students who look to other sources for guidance on interpretation inevitably adulterate their own views of the material.Generally speaking, philosophical writing is argumentative, in that it states a clear position the author means to defend at the beginning, and spends the rest of the paper proving the thesis. Great papers are equal parts textual evidence and author opinion. Students should refer to the texts and quote them throughout the paper. On the basis of the text, students should then assert their own voices, offering an interpretation or answer to a prompt that goes beyond mere summary of the reading(s) at hand. The most common types of poorly-written papers have unclear theses, over-cite the text, or devolve into unproven speculation. • Response Papers -1-2 pages in length, due at the beginning of a class. Students will select a short passage from the text that is especially fascinating, troubling, or important, and analyze it in the paper. Numerous techniques may be used to assess the passage: students might contextualize the passage within the work as awhole; they might show ways in which the passage opens up new avenues of thought; they might show how the passage throws the entire work into question; or they might try to make a confusing passage clear through their analysis. Students should offer both an interpretation of the text and some creative thought on it.

Evaluate how the PSA is supposed to work on the audience

Evaluate how the PSA is supposed to work on the audience: who specifically the text is trying to address, what methods they’re using to communicate the desired message to the audience and whether this approach is effective or not. Use your knowledge of the theories covered in class and the course readings to determine whether the PSA or ad accomplishes its goals (whatever those goals may be) and why.

Essays should follow the typical thesis/explanation/conclusion format and be 2000words long.

Career Path Report 2: Practitioner interview

Hi there,

This assignment is for my personal financial planning class (Finance) this is a second part of the career path assignment that the professor wants us to do here is the assignment description & instructions from the professor:

In addition to doing research on a career, you have the opportunity to earn points for the class by interviewing a practitioner in your chosen field. You should be prepared with a list of 10 questions similar to the items in the career path paper, but be prepared to let your subject take you into areas you hadn’t thought of. If you ask just one or two open ended questions (how did you get into this business? What would be a good development plan to enter this profession?) they will usually take over and give you a ton of information about the career. Its Due soon, so if you haven’t lined up an interviewee yet, get moving. I’ve also attached an interview format under course documents if you have trouble coming up with one of your own.

The assignment is to create questions and prepare report with both questions & answers and summary of your learning at the end of the paper.

· All reports will use Ariel type font, 12 pitch and double line spacing. All written reports will consist of 1 page plus separate citations sheet.

· For all writing assignments the following shall apply: Completion of general requirements (above) – 50% / Grammar, spelling & sentence structure – 20% / Relativity of content – 20% / Format – 10%.

**This will be checked on Safe assign, and multiple databases to prevent plagiarism. Please be careful.**

And here is the document that he talks about:

Interview Guidelines

First, show up dressed for business. This is only an assignment, but I’ve had students get job offers as a result of their practitioner interview. Second, use a firm handshake, feel confident and smile. It’s amazing how much of your personality changes when you smile. Even over the phone people can tell when you’re smiling. Third, use formal language until you’re invited to do otherwise if the person is over 45 years old (Mr., Ms., please, thank you very much etc.). The older professionals appreciate the “respect” and will usually invite you to go casual right away. By now you should be seated (maybe with a beverage) and are ready to begin the interview.

“I’m on a project for a class in the School of Business at vcu, and need to get some real-world input regarding (the field the person works in, ie: interior design, nuclear fusion, pet products), and compare it to the research I’ve done. Can you help me?” If you plan to use a recorder, ask permission.

1 – How did you come to work here at (name of business or organization)?

Be prepared to ask follow up questions such as “Was that a difficult decision?”

2 – What is a typical day in the life of a (job title)?

Possible follow-up: “Does that schedule allow for a full personal life?”

3 – What would an ideal candidate for (job title at this company) look like today?

4 – My research indicates that the average income for (job title) is $___________. Do you think that’s an accurate number?

Possible follow up: “My research also shows an average starting income of $___________. Does that seem about right to you?

5 – What do you see as the potential income progression over a career?

6 – What other pathways does a career in (job title) lead to?

I think since you wrote in the career path assignment that the career I’m interesting in is (Lawyer) you need to interview someone in this field. You can pick anyone you want but he/she has to be working as police officer or something related. You can do the interview via email if it’s possible.

*For the citations you need to provide the name of the person you are interviewing with he/she job title and the date& time you did the interview with the email if it was via email*

I hope this is everything that you need. Please let me know if you need anything.

Things to look for:
 It should involve some substantial data analysis;
 It should not use sophisticated statistical methods that are beyond this subject.

Evaluation. Your paper is marked on the following criteria: quality of content (choice of topic and sources, whether the review demonstrates understanding and the ability to link different sources and draw inferences), style (clarity of presentation, adherence to guidelines as outlined above), and thoughtfulness (independence and stringency of thoughts expressed, in particular, in the discussion of implications).
First of all, your critique should include some basic information:
1. Name(s) of the author(s)
2. Title of article
3. Title of journal, volume number, date, month and page numbers
4. Statement of the problem or issue discussed
5. Literature review.
6. The author’s purpose, approach or methods, hypothesis, and major conclusions.

The following are some questions you may want to address in your critique.

2. Is the abstract specific and representative of the article?
3. Is the purpose of the article made clear in the introduction?
4. Are the study design and methods appropriate for the purposes of the study?
5. Is all of the discussion relevant?
6. Should some sections of the manuscript be expanded, condensed or omitted?
7. Are the author’s statements clear?
8. Has the author been objective in his or her discussion of the topic?
