Which crime would increase but after the leveling time, the stats should drop to way below implementing levels.

These are a classmates initial posts for the assignment completed in order #597979. We have to respond to two classmates (the second one in a separate order) post and this is one of those from a classmate. Please respond to their post constructively and thoughtfully. Sources arent required but use if/as needed.

The five main programs that seek to reduce juvenile crime are prevention programs, policing, probation, residential/custodial facilities, and adult probation or prison. In my vision, I would divide the taxpayers dollars into each category in the following manner. 40% would go to preventative programs, 20% for policing, 20% for probation, 10 for residential/custodial facilities, and 10% for adult probation or prisons. (Mears, 2021)

The reason I would devote more to prevention programs than any other category is that risk-focused prevention programs recognize and identify the crucial risk influences for offending and implement deterrence approach strategies to counteract them. This strategy links explanation and prevention, fundamental and applied research, and scholars, policymakers, and practitioners. (Welsch, 2012) This is the only true proactive strategy of the five, the others are primarily reactive. The goal is to prevent juveniles from engaging in delinquency in the first place, which is one of the central arguments for prevention programs. (Mears, 2021)

There are more and more findings in neuroscience, behavioral research, and economics that support a striking convergence on a set of common principles that account for the potent effects of early environmental of the capacity of human skill development. This supports the need for more investment in risk prevention programs, especially to at-risk youths, in the early stage of their life course. The evidence that early childhood prevention programs are the most effective of all these categories and we should devote more resources and funds to combat delinquency and offending in America. (Welsch, 2012)

There will always be a need for policing, probation, residential facilities, and adult probation, and prisons. There will be some offenders who commit a crime once and never re-offend. There are offenders who will need to be incarcerated for the rest of their lives, but what if we can prevent it based on logical and sound research. The research says this is more likely than all the other categories and we should follow the outcomes of the empirical research.

If we were to change the system to my allocations, I think there would be temporary issues. This would be a transition time, one that would take some time in which crime would increase but after the leveling time, the stats should drop to way below implementing levels. Remember, we are talking about starting all children who show risk factors in prevention programs, at an early age. There have been longitudinal studies, which take 20 years to show that a program is effective. If we reduce offending by 10%, then this will be a success. (Andy Moore)
