An annotated bibliography is an organized list of sources, such as books, journals, newspapers, magazines, Web Pages, etc., each of which is followed by an annotation of that source, consisting of summary and analysis. Sources should reflect your research question, help build a background of evidence for your own argument, and help focus your argument. In other words, you need to know what other scholars, professionals, and researchers are talking about before you propose your ideas. Otherwise, you may be trying to re-invent the wheel.
Annotations are arranged in alphabetical order and should not exceed 250 words or be less than 100. Each annotation should:
describe the primary focus of the source (in brief)
discuss any conclusions the author(s) may have made
discuss any limitations that the source may have
evaluate the methods (research) used
evaluate the reliability of the item
describe the usefulness or relevance of source to your research, citing specific examples
An annotated bibliography is designed to be useful and therefore places high value on clarity and ease of reading.
