The purpose of this assignment is to get to know someone on a more personal level who is culturally diverse and/or identifies from a different background than your own. Please consider all aspects related to multiculturalism when choosing a candidate to interview. The assignment will encompass the following in a five page paper:
Identify an individual to interview from a culturally different background than your own.
Create a list of questions that will explore various areas of multiculturalism. Submit these questions to your instructor (with enough advance notice) prior to the interview to receive feedback to ensure cultural sensitivity.
Within a paper format describe the following:
Similarities and differences of the individuals background from your own
Similarities and differences of the individuals values from your own
Similarities and differences of the individuals personal biases from your own
Discuss how the individual experiences any forms of prejudice and/or discrimination.
Reflect on how you, as a counselor, may assist this individual in a therapeutic relationship (not to be included within the interview with the participant).
