Each essay will be a minimum of three pages long (approximately 1000 words, without counting citations), double-spaced with regular margins, with a 12-point font, in English. The essays are 50% of your grade. The objectives of the essays are aligned with the course objectives and student learning outcomes. The course objectives are: to introduce the culture and civilizations of Hispanic-American nations, and to analyze Hispanic-American literature.
The quality of the title is important. Choose a topic that interests you about the novel/ work/author/ we are covering. Use at least one outside source. You can use the history book Born in Blood and Fire as an outside source too, but you may use at least one article related to the work you are writing about. The essays are open, they could be: Narrative/Reflective, Analytical (compare/contrast), Research papers, or Position papers (synthesis). You choose. In-text citations are required. Cite your references using the MLA format. The sequence of activities that will help you build a final product are: reading, researching, writing. In the first paragraph, you could answer: Why did you choose this topic? Your English should be of college level.
