The essay must be related to Mass Incarceration in United State

Fill out the prewriting notes document by answering the questions and filling in the chart best you can. Once you have done that, write a paper that does the following. You dont have to stick to this structure, but its fine if you do.

1. SET UP: Summarize the film briefly, set up the paper with a thesis that will help focus the paper and alert the reader about its content.

2. CONTEXTUALIZE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE FILM: state your impression of the material before you watched the film.
a. What ideas did you have about the role of racial bias in the criminal justice system, or the prison system in the US?
b. Where do you think you got those ideas from? (You can use the ideas you jotted down during the automatic writing exercise.)
c. What did you know about this documentary before you watched it?

3. REFLECTION: write about at least three of the following:
c. What were your first impressions?
d. What images and ideas stuck with you after watching the film?
e. What did/didnt you appreciate about its content?

4. OTHER OPINIONS: Make sure to include their author name and the name of the publication where their review appeared. (Hint: Rotten Tomatoes is not the name of the publication). Mention the following:
f. What rating the author gave.
g. How they justified their rating
h. Whether or not you agree with the rating.

5. CONNECTION TO LARGER CONVERSATION AND CONCLUSION:
i. Refer to at least two of the readings we have covered so far (by Alexander, Davis, or Sered), and write about the film in the context of those. How do you see this film through their eyes?
j. Make sure you refer to the authors by their last names and cite page numbers after quotes.

Note, this is not a five paragraph essay. Each section may require more than one paragraph.

REQUIREMENTS:
Times New Roman Font, 12 pt., double spaced, one-inch margins. At least three secondary sources (The review, and two of our Study and Struggle texts) and one primary source (the film itself) on the works cited page, properly formatted. Transitions and appropriately indented paragraphs.
