Current and Future Espionage and Counterespionage Trends

Please answer both:

1. What are your thoughts on Maria Butina? Is she a former grad student with an interest in guns and conservatives, a bumbling fumbling amateur would-be spy, or a full-blown spy? Is this how spying is done in the digital age?

2. Assess current and future trends in espionage and counterespionage with respect to US national security. For example, unmanned vehicles/drones, cloud computing/networked analytical capabilities, bio-technologies, increases in computing power and storage capacities, wireless technologies, digital imagery, mobile computing, stealth technologies, multi-spectral sensors, etc.

Why we should avoid fragrance in skincare

-For this assignment, I have already selected the scientific literature to cite which I will add later to the completed work. The essay is supposed to be story like, engaging the senses of the audience and provide them with something to relate to. I want to depict fragrance as the arch nemesis of society, the seductive poison to out community. Fragrance can cause a slew of issues, it exaterbates preexisting skin diseases and adds to the list of allergies to other ingredients that otherwise wouldn’t cause issue because fragrance is a co-sensitizer. When an individual develops allergies to other ingredients, they must now be wary of a larger collection of products to avoid that specific allergy. The article I am citing is a patch study done with patients that have eczema and how fragrance triggers a flare-up. They isolated a patch of healthy arm skin and placed a common skincare fragrance on the area and monitored over a 7 day period. Since the study only had 13 participants it lacks data and efficacy. . . I would like to somehow incorporate that in the essay. For the “story-like” theme, Id like to have the audience view through the lens of the scientists doing this study, (some of the hurdles they come across and problem solving). I will include a link to a related essay/article that takes information from scientific literature made for experts and alters it into something for a general audience. I want fragrance to be the main focus and how its causes more harm than good “topically.”

Instructions are below

Thinking rhetorically about scientific and technical documents requires the ability to respond to a variety of audiences. For this project, you will find an article in a journal related to your profession and translate it for an audience who does not belong to your professions particular discourse community. One possible audience could be the readers of the New York Times Tuesday science page, general readers who are interested in or affected by the research.

As we work on sample articles, youll notice that the adapted articles are very people-oriented. While you most likely will not be able to interview the researchers who wrote your technical article, youll still need to think like a reporter or a science writer. So think about researchers as humans performing an experiment or procedure that has implications for other humans.

You can use different methods for adapting material for general readers, but I would like you to practice writing a narrative. I have outlined

Think about how you will structure your essay in terms of the introduction, coherent paragraphs, and smooth transitions. Good papers will not only translate the content in a more digestible way for their audience, they will also convince their audience that they need or want to know the information. Excellent papers will take a dynamic and creative approach to re-presenting the material for a different audience.

Requirements: Your final paper will be about 3 – 4 typed, double-spaced pages.

References: You must include a citation or link to your original article at the end of the paper.

Content:
– should be about the same thing as the journal article, but can (and should) present it for different effect
– should make a clear appeal to the audience’s need for or interest and curiosity in the information
– uses the chosen appeal to develop strategies from the class PowerPoints to present the research material in story form
– anticipates and answers audience questions: who? what? where? when? with what results? so what?
Organization:
– gives background when needed, makes an immediate connection with a familiar situation, blends narrative with broader information from the research article.
– presents a title that connects the topic to the audience’s interests
Style:
– concise explanations and specific examples
– paper uses concrete words, good action verbs
– descriptions that mean something to the audience
Grammar:
– follows conventional standards of grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Thematic Literature Review on the topic: Doctoral Persistence (Students in business programs)

Thematic Literature Review on the topic: Doctoral Persistence (Students in business programs)
What is a Literature Review?
A literature review discusses published information in a particular subject area, and sometimes information in a particular subject area within a certain time period.
A literature review can be just a simple summary of the sources, but it usually has an organizational pattern and combines both summary and synthesis. A summary is a recap of the important information of the source, but a synthesis is a re-organization, or a reshuffling, of that information. It might give a new interpretation of old material or combine new with old interpretations. Or it might trace the intellectual progression of the field, including major debates. And depending on the situation, the literature review may evaluate the sources and advise the reader on the most pertinent or relevant.

How is a literature review different from an academic research paper?

While the main focus of an academic research paper is to support your own argument, the focus of a literature review is to summarize and synthesize the arguments and ideas of others (The Writing Center, para. 3). The academic research paper also covers a range of sources, but it is usually a select number of sources, because the emphasis is on the argument. Likewise, a literature review can also have an argument, but it is not as important as covering a number of sources. In short, an academic research paper and a literature review contain some of the same elements. In fact, many academic research papers will contain a literature review section. However, it is the aspect of the study (the argument or the sources) emphasized that determines what type of document it is.

How is a literature review different from an annotated bibliography?

A literature review is composed and structured similar to that of an expository essay (see below details regarding formatting), while an annotated bibliography is an alphabetized list of sources, individually addressed by the description and comments following each reference. Additionally, while a single source appears just once in an annotated bibliography, it may be referred to numerous times in a literature review, depending upon its importance in the field or relationship to other sources (Northwestern, n.d., para. 1). A literature review contains summary and synthesis of the sources included and cited in-text or parenthetically. Consider if you were to invite the authors of the collected sources to a dinner party at your home; they may agree on some topics while disagreeing on others. Aim to compare and contrast perspectives, identify relationships where concepts build upon or contribute to one another, and maintain the theme of the topic.

Why write literature reviews?

Literature reviews provide you with a handy guide to a particular topic. If you have limited time to conduct research, literature reviews can give you an overview or act as a stepping-stone. For professionals, they are useful reports that keep them up to date with what is current in the field. For scholars, the depth and breadth of the literature review emphasizes the credibility of the writer in his or her field. Literature reviews also provide a solid background for a research paper’s investigation. Comprehensive knowledge of the literature of the field is essential to most research papers (The Writing Center, para. 4).

What is the format for literature reviews?

Just like most academic papers, literature reviews also must contain at least three basic elements: an introduction or background information section; the body of the review containing the discussion of sources; and, finally, a conclusion and/or recommendations section to end the paper.

Introduction: Gives a quick idea of the topic of the literature review, such as the central theme or organizational pattern.
Body: Contains your discussion of sources and is organized thematically (see below for more information on each).
Conclusions/Recommendations: Discuss what you have drawn from reviewing literature so far. Where might the discussion proceed? (The Writing Center, para. 12).

What is a thematic literature review?

A thematic review would have subtopics based upon factors that relate to the theme or issue.
Sometimes, though, you might need to add additional sections that are necessary for your study, but do not fit in the organizational strategy of the body. What other sections you include in the body is up to you. Put in only what is necessary. Here are a few other sections you might want to consider:

Current Situation: Information necessary to understand the topic or focus of the literature review.
History: The chronological progression of the field, the literature, or an idea that is necessary to understand the literature review, if the body of the literature review is not already a chronology.
Methods and/or Standards: The criteria you used to select the so

What problem are you trying to solve? – Limitations on Fossil Fuels

The purpose of this assignment is to create a design challenge that highlights various problem-solving techniques. Write a paper of approximately 250-275 words in American English utilizing a business writing format to present and frame the design challenge. Reference the example provided in The Field Guide to Human-Centered Design for additional information. Address the following:

What problem are you trying to solve? – Limitations on Fossil Fuels

Who will be affected by the problem? – Everyone

To what degree will the group identified be affected? – Hard to say, depends on how fast a mainstream alternative can be put into place.

Consider that new technologies are being developed and are emerging through the hype cycle. Imagine some of the converging technology within the next 2-5 years that might enable a solution to your problem – Electric Cars and bio-diesel.

Conduct research on companies or groups that are working on these emerging technologies. (Tesla, Renewable Energy Group).

Discuss how human-centered design and technological advances could offer possible solutions to the problem you are trying to solve (Both electricity and Bio Diesel are renewable, Bio-Diesel could utilize the same infrastructure with a few changes, and current diesel vehicles can already be modified with larger injectors to run regular used cooking oil so, it will likely be quite simple).

What are some of the initial constraints? For example, does the target customer segment have money to pay for it? Is a particular resource too expensive? Does the target need to be educated about how to use the product? (So, for electric cars like Tesla, they are more expensive, but still affordable. The main issue is support infrastructure. For Bio Diesel the main constraints will be Blending and the cost to Grow the Feedstock, will it be at a price worth it to farmers and yet affordable to the public).

What are some possible variants to the design challenge? For example, are there substitute resources, different adjustments to the value property, or other modifications to the business model that could make it viable?

Use at least 2 American Sources, American English.

Article Critique

You will write a 2-page critical summary of a qualitative peer-reviewed journal article that uses qualitative methods for their study.

The article should be on a topic in the Human Services field that interests the student. Select a journal from the social sciences like Human Service Education, a journal of the National Organization for Human Services.

Other suggested journals may come from the professions of social work, psychology, sociology, political science, criminal justice, or health care. EBSCO is a good source for choosing social science journals when students do their library research.

The journal chosen should contain qualitative research papers on subjects pertaining to Human Services.

You should be able to read an analysis of the data and report on the validity of the report. The critique should include an analysis of the research design, methodology, statistics chosen, ethical issues that may be present, and the results of the research.

Are the results generalizable to other programs or populations?
Is qualitative research as scientific as quantitative research?
Why or why not?
Papers should be completed in APA format. Reference a Saint Leo Core Value, Theory, and NOHS Standards.

This paper is more than a summary of the article. It requires you to analyze the article for strengths and weaknesses as well as evaluate the components of an article.
