What would be the core elements of a conflict resolution procedure that you would develop?

1.) Identify the cause of the problem (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019).

2.) It is important to also look past the incident. It is often the point of view of the situation that leads to the conflict. As the tension builds, the two parties start attacking each other instead of addressing the real issue (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019).

3.) Go to each party and request solutions. After getting the parties perspectives, the next step is to ask them to identify ways in which the situation could be changed (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019).

4.) Identify solutions all parties are willing to support. You are listening for the most advantageous course of action. Point out the various advantages and disadvantages of each idea.

5.) The last step is an agreement. A mediator will be assigned and the mediator needs to get the parties to shake hands and accept an alternative. This step is necessary to reach a negotiated agreement (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019). The other part of the process is to ask the individuals what actions they will take to prevent conflicts in the future (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019).

As a leader, what would concern you most if this situation arose? Why?

The biggest thing that would concern me the most if this situation arose would be the challenge I would have to face. Conflict resolution is a big challenge for anyone to handle and that is just the reality of the situation (What Great Leaders Know About Conflict Resolution, 2018). It is a big challenge for anyone to master. Even with the most basic level of maturity, conflicts are inevitable (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019). Most of us are not good at handling them. Having a good handle on conflict can help a leader develop a more effective and memorable leadership style (The Five Steps to Conflict Resolution, 2019).

What do you think about other solutions proposed by the class?

Solutions being proposed by the class is an excellent idea. This is actually my 3rd element in trying to reach a solution in this conflict. This can also be considered collaborating. When using the collaborating style, you negotiate and resolve conflicts by finding a mutually satisfying solution. You may also believe that two heads are best than one (Counseling Center, n.d.).

What would you change or improve about some of the other approaches to the situation?

It appears that this pilot program may not have been discussed with all the parties involved. The biggest thing I would improve upon in the future is communication and input. It would have been the best practice to first introduce the concept of this pilot program to all parties involved and get their input. This input would have either allowed those administrating this pilot program to tweak it or call it off all together.
