o Let’s think outside the box! This assignment will require you to CREATIVELY apply your knowledge of Brain and Behavior to activities in your everyday life. Your task is to 1) watch a movie, any movie, as long as it is a full-length feature film intended for entertainment and NOT a documentary or video intended to further your learning in any way, 2) write a paper at least 3 pages in length (not counting the cover page or literature cited) about how the issues in the movie relate to ANYTHING we covered in Brain and Behavior (Chapters 1 through 15). You can even go one step beyond and do some independent research (on the PubMed database, for instance) to include information that builds upon what we’ve learned in class.
o The paper must be typed in APA format, Times New Roman, 12pt, double-spaced with 1-inch margins, and with NO ILLUSTRATIONS. Because this is a somewhat unconventional assignment, I’ve posted an example paper, graded with comments, under Resources in TRACS to give you an idea of what to do. It’s entitled “My name is Charlie B., and I’m a chocoholic: themes of decision-making and dopaminergic reward in Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”. It received an 85% B. I’ve included grading comments so you can see how this paper could be improved. Because it has been given to you as an example, you will NOT be allowed to write your paper on Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory! You must choose your own movie.
o As noted in the “comments” shown on the graded example paper, your paper must include at least 10 points on which the movie relates to Brain and Behavior. Please use APA format for all your citations and include a literature cited page. You are required to use proper citation/reference format for any quotes or paraphrased information that is taken from any source other than my audio lectures. You should include at least 5 references from outside of class – these should be scholarly journal articles and books. In addition to this, you must properly reference the movie and your textbook in APA format.
