Guideline on doing cases
MKTG 460- International Marketing

Read the case assigned to your team carefully. Analyze the materials presented in the case. You may use the questions asked at the end of the case to guide you in this analysis if the case writers include a set of questions at the end of the case.

You should be able to identify all the major issues or problems in the case as a result of this analysis. Seldom, a case will contain all the information you would like to have to conduct a full analysis. Hence, sometimes you may need to make a few assumptions. If you do so, you need to convince the reader that the assumptions are reasonable ones. You are not strictly confined to the facts presented in the case. You may conduct additional research for information about the company and the products/services outside the case to support your assertions. If you do so, please make sure to cite the sources and include them in a separate reference list at the end of your report. You may choose to include the sources as notes in the body of the report. Cite the sources as well as the year in which it is published in the body of your report (for example, Smith and John 2006).

Your group’s job is to identify the issue(s)/problems in the case and suggest possible alternative solutions, if any which can be implemented to address the issue(s). Your team needs to provide any global marketing theories or concepts, which may either clarify the issue(s) better or correct applications of these global marketing concepts may be helpful to resolves the issue(s) discussed. Your team must be prepared to thoroughly explore all possible factors which may influence your considerations of all issue(s) involved in the case.

Your team should suggest which alternative actions should be considered in order to address the issue(s). Pros and cons of each alternative should be discussed. A recommendation should be made as to which alternative is the best according to your team’s best judgment and the reason(s) why. An action plan must also be recommended, which must be specific in terms of its implementation. For instance, do not just say that your team feels that the firm should do more advertising. Instead, if you suggest that the firm or the organization should do more advertising, your implementation plan should include descriptions on how, where and if possible how much should the firm spend on this campaign. It would be great if you can produce an ad copy to illustrate how this ad campaign you are suggesting may look like.

The team will submit one written team report typed in double space using a 12 point font with proper page numbers. The normal professional standards for a written report are expected. You must pay attention to grammar and writing style, etc. No plagiarism will be tolerated. Be prepared to dress as professionally as reasonable for your oral presentation in class. Treat it as a presentation to the project manager or the president of the firm.

The length of your case report should be commensurate with the number and nature of issues involved. This will vary from case to case. You may include as many appendices including any of your team’s creative works as you wish. Include a cover page listing the names of students in the team and the title of your case report.

Your paper should include the following:
2. An Executive Summary providing a brief statement of the problems/issues in the case
and your suggested alternatives and implementation plans (one page or less)
3. A brief introduction about the company and the issues to be addressed in this case
4. Conduct an analysis of these issues and discuss all relevant global marketing
concepts which can be applied in this analysis
5. Discuss various alternative actions which can be taken to resolve the issues. Discuss
pros & cons of each alternative
6. Select the best alternative and explain clearly why your team thinks that this
alternative is the best
7. Provide a detailed plan for implementation of this alternative and how you may go
about evaluating the effectiveness of the plan after implementation
8. Include a list of references at the end of the report if any
9. Appendices if any
10. Your report must have page numbers
11. Leave 1” margin on all sides

Policy Analysis

Order Description

Final Project: Policy Analysis Paper Guidelines
In the Final Project for this course, due by Day 7 of Week 10, you are asked to apply your understanding of the major concepts presented in this course by evaluating a public policy problem and making recommendations.
For the Final Project, you will construct a Policy Analysis Paper. You will select and describe a decision-maker (at the local, state, national, or international level) who hypothetically has asked you to write a policy analysis on a public policy problem of your choice. You could choose a member of Congress, the president, a governor, a state legislator, a mayor, a city council member, or another official. Assume that the decision-maker is undecided about his or her position on the problem.
The Decision-maker is Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the Public Policy Problem is the “Stop and Frisk Policy” of the New York Police Department
Your Final Project will be approximately 15 pages, double-spaced. You will submit the Final Project in three parts:
The part one of the Project has been completed already. I need week 8 separate from the Project. Bascially, project (15 pages) and the outline of 2 to 3 pages stating what is said below:
• • Week 8: Final Project Abstract. Submit to your Instructor a 3-page outline of (a) three alternative ways to tackle the public policy problem you selected; (b) 10 scholarly resources that will inform and support your recommendations; and (c) your chosen recommendation to the decision- maker.

• • Week 10: Final Project (15 pages). Your Policy Analysis Paper should include the following:
o Executive Summary: Describe the public policy problem of interest to you, the scope of the problem, and a capsule summary of your recommended course of action. (1–2 paragraphs)
o Introduction and Problem Definition: Explain why the problem is important. Why should the decision-maker care about this issue? (1 page)
o Issue Analysis: Explain in detail, supported by scholarly resources, the scope of the public policy issue. You should describe the stakeholders (e.g., branches of government, interest groups, nonprofit organizations, media, the bureaucracy, etc.) connected to the problem. (3 pages)
o Proposed Solutions: You are not expected to detail every possible approach to the issue you selected. However, based on your research, select three or four potential solutions that directly address the public policy problem you selected. It is important that you explain which stakeholders would be proponents and which would be opponents of each policy alternative you identify, and why, and the implications of their being for or against the alternative(s). You should make clear to the decision-maker the complexities involved with each proposed solution you analyze. (7 pages)
o Policy Recommendation: Choose one of the alternatives to the public policy problem you selected and explain, based on scholarly materials you have examined, why it is best suited to address the problem. Be sure to address opportunities and challenges of implementing your recommendation given any relevant political, social, economic, or cultural considerations. Additionally, explain what, if any, social justice and/or ethical issues are impacted by your recommended policy alternative. (4 pages)

Case 4, LOG503 (Facilities Layout)

Order Description

Background
Facilities Layout
The following information will give you a good background on the importance of correct facilities layout and storage solutions. Read the articles below to assist you with completing the assignments for this module.
Start by reading the article below on Continental Airlines automated storage units.
Anonymous (2002). Continental flying high with automated storage units. Modern Materials Handling. Boston, 57(12), 45.
Abstract:
Continental Airlines recently built a new maintenance building at its Newark hub to better serve the airline’s growth. To save space, the airline installed 6 vertical lift modules that hold important parts and tools in a manner that makes them readily available and in proper condition as defined by Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
Here is an excellent article that discusses how to design an efficient warehouse and distribution center for the beverage industry.
Larose, N. (2001, Apr). Efficiencies within four walls. Beverage Industry; New York, 92(4), 64.
Abstract:
Site layout, building dimensions, column bay dimensions, lighting, dock locations and ceiling heights are all essential design elements for efficient warehousing and distribution. The greatest opportunities to reduce costs in the beverage industry are available in the distribution warehouses. To maximize these opportunities, a distributor must determine the operational plan that best fits its business and the facility in which it operates. The most common mistake made by distributor is a lack of planning, which can result in costly errors. Every facility should have a master plan.
This article discusses how important the dock is to a warehouse.
Freese, T. L., (2000, Jun). The dock: Your warehouse’s most valuable real estate. Material Handling Management. Cleveland, 55(6), 97-101.
Abstract:
Docks today must be much more flexible, as well as more efficient, to accommodate the increased number and types of receipts and shipments. The number of docks required is determined by a combination of factors: number of receipts and shipments, type of loading and unloading, types and sizes of vehicles, number and timing of carriers, and different areas in which materials will be utilized, stored or prepared for shipment. Today, given the move to JIT inventories and the tendency for shipments to be in close proximity to the manufacturing location, more and more facilities are being constructed with multiple shipping and receiving docks. If your operations require reverse logistics functions, these, too, must be evaluated for environmental considerations. According to OSHA, more than 10 percent of all lift truck accidents result from poor dock layout and overcrowded conditions. Without well-thought-out layouts, good safety practices and staff training, you put some of your most valuable resources at risk – your people.

Facilities Layout
Assignment Overview
Read the following article and review the background readings,
Graham, D.D., (2003), Warehouse of the Future, Frontline Solutions; Duluth; Apr 2003.
Abstract:
Software will choreograph tomorrow’s warehouse work The warehouse of the future will not be technology-dependent but technology enhanced-a blend of technology, machine, and manpower. Supply chain software, already a critical element today, will actually the work of this new highly automated warehouse, trimming fat, dumping waste, and eliminating redundancy wherever it is found. Workers will be fewer, but more qualified, better trained, and more motivated. What has everyone involved in material handling and warehouse management salivating are radio frequency identification technology systems that are made up of three components – an antenna or coil, a transceiver and a transponder, usually in the form of a tag. Future warehouse management technologies will perform functions impossible today, including finite scheduling and the process sequencing of orders, allowing the operation to take advantage of its capacities while managing its constraints. Those constraints will include labor, physical space, yard capacity, order mix and value added processing, a factor that will loom large in warehouses to come.
Case Assignment
Then in a 3-4 page paper discuss the following questions:
How can flexibility be built into warehouse planning and design to accommodate change for the future? What would it require? What are the trade-offs with respect to allocating resources up front or into the future?
Assignment Expectations
Research the topic with information from the background readings as well as any other resources you find on your own. The paper should be 3-4 pages in length and have a cover sheet and a reference page. Clarity of presentation is important, as well as your ability to cover the topic in a succinct, organized manner with research to back up your points. Use at least 3 different sources of information and annotate your sources of information appropriately on your references page and within the text as necessary. You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate your knowledge of facility layout with respect to logistics management. Submit your assignment for grading by the end of this module.

from chapter 4 to 6

other : Moreno, R. (2010). Educational psychology.

answer the following questions:

1. Willingham states that students understand new ideas by relating them to ideas they already know. Consider the subject content you will teach to students in your classroom. Describe a lesson where you can use an analogy, concrete example, or other connection to information the students already know in order to help them understand abstract material in that subject area.

2. Willingham describes two ways that teachers can help students overcome the limited size of working memory – by having them gain factual knowledge and by helping them develop automatic processes. For each, provide an example of how you might use it in the subject(s) you will teach.

3. Students cannot create new knowledge about a subject like experts can, but with help they can try to carry out processes that are automatic to an expert. Describe an activity that your students can complete with your guidance that will allow them to carry out a process an expert might conduct, even though they have limited skills.

Australian Parliamentary Report

Order Description

Watch the Queensland Parliament or Federal Parliament live online and observe the operations of Parliament during parliamentary business or Question time for at least an hour and write a report (report style) on what you observed and what you learnt about the operation of policy and Parliament. In your report you must link your observations and the content of the discussion with theory and literature from the course. (Watching an hour live is not necessarily, I can provide a transcript that I found.)

Provide a reference list which conforms to APA reference style.

You need to link information about social policy from the first lecture and information about values and principles and formal government institutions from the second and third lectures and any readings that you think are relevant to support your points.
It is hard to clearly outline exactly what you need to address because it will depend on what it debated in parliament when you watch/go there, and which parliament session you watch, however, things you could look for may include:

– A brief outline about the context e.g. is this federal parliament or state parliament; is it the House of Representatives or the Senate, how are they different and why?
– What was happening at the time e.g. was the opposition party questioning the government about its policy agenda; was the government outlining its policy agenda, was legislation being debated?
– What do you think the policies of the government and/or opposition are from what you heard? (You don’t have to have a full analysis of this at this point). How does this fit with ideology/values?
– How do you think the government and/or opposition sees the respective balance between the roles of the state/government, market/economy, community and families?
– Did you see any impacts for social work and social work clients in the debate?

These are just suggestions to get you thinking and are not comprehensive.
Both the Australian and Queensland Government Parliamentary websites provide quite a bit of information that you can use to assist you understand the respective government systems and you can reference this material.
