Quality management

FORMULATE

1. Carry out a SWOT analysis in a table explaining the current situation of the company to determine what points are in your favour and what aspects are against you. Besides, list the competitive advantages of the company.
2. Based on the results obtained in the SWOT, focus on the threats and weaknesses and establish a series of specific objectives that Joseph wants to achieve with the implementation of a quality management system.
3. Determine which actions or measures Joseph should implement and specifies the variables that must be addressed to detect the problem that prevents his company from thriving. (Regarding the measures of service quality and productivity).
4. As we have seen, the Kaizen philosophy is a handy tool for the establishment of a good quality management system. Thus, write a quality management plan focusing on the different phases of the Kaizen implementation process, to detect the possible causes of the problem and establish a series of corrective measures to achieve the objectives outlined in point 2.

Commodity: TESLA car battery(nickel)

ASSIGNMENT:

Commodity: TESLA car battery(nickel)

Write a short reflection paper (750words)on the process of researching this commodity (i.e., Part 1B, worth 15% of final class mark). Based on your experiences, comment on the challenges that consumers may face in understanding and evaluating the life of this commodity. The paper must answer the questions posed in the detailed instructions below. You must use at least one corporate report(or corporate website), one report from an NGO or industry stakeholder(E.G Industry Association), and two reports from media sources(E.G CBC News).

3.Research the commodity and value chain that you have chosen. You may consider the following questions as a guide: a. What are/is the raw material input(s) of this commodity? (E.g. if the commodity is a cup of coffee then coffee beans, water and the cup are the material inputs) For each commodity, I have indicated which material input to focus on for the assignment requirements.
b.Where does this main raw material input come from? What is its original form? (E.g. coffee starts off as beans grown on plants). c. What processes does the raw material input go through in order to become the final commodity that we consume? (E.g. the coffee bean is picked, dried, shipped, roasted, ground, combined with water). d. What happens to your commodity after it is consumed? Where is it disposed of and how? Is any recycling involved? e. Can you identify how value is added to your commodity as it travels through the value chain? (e.g. why is a cup of coffee worth so much more than a coffee bean?) f. Where (geographically) do these steps take place? What flows/movements (of money, products, disposal, labor) can you identify? g. What actors and/or institutions are involved in these steps?
h. How is the commodity chain governed? Can you identify whether the chain is buyer-driven, producer-driven or a combination? What does this mean for who has the most power within the chain? i.Are there any regulations or certification processes that happen along the way? How might they affect the commodity chain as a whole? (e.g. some coffee is certified as fair trade)

Please use appropriate references where applicable in a style of your choosing. Your paper should also discuss the following questions:1.How did you evaluate the accuracy and limitations of the information you found in publicly available documents? How did you decide whether or not to include it in your representation of the commodity value chain? What (if anything) surprised you about the process of finding and evaluating information?

2.In your opinion, would a consumer interested in making an informed purchasing decision be satisfied with the quantity and quality of information you were able to find and incorporate into your infographic? Explain your opinion. What information (if any) might be lacking

Sociologists note that although sociological studies have pointed out good solutions to social issues they have been largely ignored by governmental leaders and the media. Go to the American Sociological Association website (www.asanet.org) or the Society for the Study of Social Problems website (www.sssp1.org). Take a look around each site and find a research study that provides a good basis for the use of sociological research in public policy. Share with your classmates what you located and how this evidence could benefit government leaders in their decision-making.
Based on what was presented in Chapter 3, describe how you would determine if a politician is providing you with trustworthy or misleading information.

How are the perspectives of the three news outlets different? How would your knowledge of the story be different if you just read one news outlet? Share the news story and responses with your classmates.

Present one personal trouble in your life (for example, struggling to pay for college or to find a job that pays well, a time when you were discriminated against, etc.). Now use your sociological imagination to relate your personal struggle to a larger social issue. In other words, explain how an issue that you have experienced personally is actually something that is likely experienced more widely by individuals who share your social location. Share how your solutions to the problem differ depending on whether you viewed it as (a) an individual problem or (b) a societal issue.
Explain why the second core commitment of sociology (social activism) must be preceded by the first (use of the sociological eye). Provide an example of how you must fulfill both core commitments.
It is often interesting to assess the media lens and media framing by looking at how different media outlets report on the same story. Choose a current important news story. Be sure to choose a story that can be compared on the following three media outlets: CNN (www.cnn.com), BBC (www.bbc.com), and Fox News (www.foxnews.com). Are the events at the center of the story portrayed positively or negatively (or both) by all three news outlets? How are the perspectives of the three news outlets different? How would your knowledge of the story be different if you just read one news outlet? Share the news story and responses with your classmates.
